Children of a Bad Moon are called so, because, they are conceived at night under Arma’s new moon and then born at night under another of Arma’s new moons. It would be difficult under most circumstances to determine if a child was actually conceived under a New Moon, However, a Halfling baby in this situation gives itself away with specific traits. Halfling babies born under a Bad moon do not cry when they are born, their hair is always jet black, and pin straight (rare traits among Halflings) and their eyes are an otherworldly blue (it’s said they even glow slightly). It isn’t often that you will hear Halflings advocating violence in their community but upon the birth of one of these children you may very well hear that killing the child is a valid and serious option. Usually (but not always) cooler heads prevail and the community decides to take the child on as a test from their Mother goddess (this is actually a test from their Mother Goddess). These children if raised right will receive extensive lessons in morality and religion, more importantly the community will go out of its way to make sure that the child is included in all community events, not harassed by other children and always properly taken care. If they can, they introduce the child to as many good sorcerers, wizards, bards, clerics and good magic in general as they can. The reason is that these children when not raised right have turned their incredible intelligence towards learning magic and then using that magic for revenge on those they feel wronged them. These same children when raised properly and lovingly become great defenders of their communities and use their magical talents, and intelligence for the benefit of the community. “If the community is good and caring then the child is good and caring, if the community is not, then there will be no community.”
